Peggy Diane Maurer

Peggy Diane Maurer, the daughter of Ray and Iris Summerbell Herrig, was born October 12, 1932 on a farm near Dickens and Gillett Grove, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent on the farm, where she received her education in country school and later graduated from Gillett Grove High School in 1950. Peg enjoyed playing basketball in high school and later enjoyed attending the Girl's State Tournament every time some local team in northwest Iowa was participating. She later attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, where she received her teaching certificate. Following her schooling, she returned to Clay County, where she taught country schools for 5 years. Peggy married William Charles Maurer on June 4, 1955 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Rectory in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, she taught for one year in Greenville country schools, while living on the family farm near Greenville. In 1974, they moved to a farm south of Spencer, where they continued to farm. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Peggy also enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, fishing, reading and putting together puzzles. Peggy passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Douglas (Bud) and Ed (Skeet) Herrig and a sister, Sally Muilenburg. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, William of Spencer; two sons: Bradley and his wife, Kay Maurer of Spencer and David and his wife, Janel of Spencer; four grandchildren: Amy Maurer of Okoboji, IA, Mike and his wife, Stephanie Maurer of Manson, IA, Chris Maurer and Ross Maurer both of Spencer; a brother, Robert and his wife, Judy Herrig of Elk River, MN; a brother-in-law, Stan Muilenburg of Spencer; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 18th, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer, Iowa.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 17th, with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

INTERMENT
Riverside Cemetery Spencer, Iowa A lunch will be served at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fellowship Hall following the graveside services.
