Phyllis Jean Anderson, the daughter of Leo and Lena Westphal Struve was born on May 6, 1933, on a farm northwest of Paullina, Iowa. She started school in Sutherland, Iowa, and went through 8th grade. She attended school in Hartley, Iowa, graduating in 1951.
She married Duane Anderson on August 26, 1951, in Hartley, Iowa. They farmed together in the Peterson, Iowa, area until 1991, where their daughter and two sons grew up. Phyllis enjoyed Sunday morning coffees at their house, baking, fishing, traveling, dancing and spending several winters in Arizona. She enjoyed working in the church, and most of all her children and grandchildren and close friends.
Phyllis was a member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson, Women’s Fellowship, served on the church board, taught Sunday School, was a youth group leader, choir director and held several offices in them throughout the years. She enjoyed being a member of the OAO Society for over 50 years.
Phyllis passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law; her loving husband, Duane of 69 years; one precious son, Rick in 2010; one grandson; two sisters: Helen Rohwer and Bernadine Johannsen; and one brother, Irvin Struve.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cheri Brown and husband, Greg of Peterson, IA; son, Jon and wife, Janet of Peterson, IA; daughter-in-law, Deb Anderson of Peterson, IA; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
