Jean Phyllis Sheridan, daughter of John and Jean Turner Grieve, was born on July 24, 1916 at the home of her parents near Webb, Iowa. Jean Phyllis was known as Phyllis as a young child and is known as Phyllis by her family and friends. Phyllis received her early education in Webb and graduated from Webb High School in 1933. Phyllis went on to further her education at Buena Vista College for 2 years and then received her Bachelors Degree with a major in Education from the University of Northern Iowa.
After receiving her degree Phyllis went on to teach grade school, junior high and high school in Ayrshire and Royal, Iowa. Later she took a teaching job in the small town of Oakville in south eastern Iowa where she met her future husband Max Erwin Sheridan.
On September 6, 1947 Phyllis and Max were married in Muscatine, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple lived in Burlington, Iowa where they had two children, Susan Ann (1949-1995) and John David. During that time Phyllis taught elementary education and junior high school.
In 1970 Max and Phyllis moved back to the family farm in Webb where Phyllis enjoyed traveling through out the US with Max, collecting antique dishes, gardening and nurturing her many flower beds, enlisting the help of family members to move plants from one location to another. She loved living on the family farm watching the crops from spring until the fall harvest. She also enjoyed spending time at the families Okoboji lake home and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Phyllis was an avid reader, serving a number of years on the Webb Library board.
Phyllis passed away on July 5, 2009 at St Lukes Home at the age of 92. She is preceded in death by her husband Max in 2007, her daughter Susan in 1995, her parents, and her infant brother, Philip.
Left to cherish her memory are her son John Sheridan and his wife Carolyn of Greenville, Iowa, grandson Erik Sheridan and his wife Tara of Minnetonka, Minnesota, granddaughter Euvonne Sheridan of Greenville, Iowa, granddaughter Rose Brewer of Palmdale, California, and many other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Graveside Services will be held at 11:00a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the Liberty Cemetery in Greenville, Ia.
