Ralph Ivan Day, the son of Robert and Cora (Luzader) Day was born September 18, 1927 in Martinsburg, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Martinsburg area until moving to Ottumwa, IA, where he graduated high school.
Ralph joined the U.S. Army Air Corps/Air Force in 1946 and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1953. He married Patricia Hoover in Ottumwa, IA on November 23, 1946. He worked for a furniture factory before moving to Webster City, IA where he worked as an electrician in several manufacturing plants. He retired from the Iowa Department of Human Services, retired in Missouri before moving to Spencer, IA in 2010.
Ralph enjoyed wood working, watching sports, reading, traveling, his dogs: Mandi and Patches, and especially spending time with his family.
Ralph passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at St. Luke's Lutheran Home at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia on March 21, 2011; 5 sisters and 3 brothers.
Left to cherish his memory are 3 children: Cheryl (David) Smith of Omaha, NE, Linda (Dennis) Linn of Fostoria, IA, and Robert (Lori) Day of Aurora, CO; 7 grandchildren, Matt (Salma) Smith, Tom (Jennifer) Smith, Kelli (Paul) Bloomquist, Katie (Brian) Balk, Kristi (Ryan) Swedean, Jon (Kylee) Day, and Jordan (Nicole) Day; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Klein; and many friends.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Ralph's name.
SERVICES
Memorial services will take place 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 12, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
