Ray D. Pullen

Raymond Dean Pullen, the youngest son of Roy T. and Ella Moon Pullen, was born July 17, 1925 in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on a farm north of Spencer. He attended Spencer schools, and graduated from Spencer High School. After graduation, he joined Hunter Flying Service, which was stationed in Spencer. He later went with them to Hamilton, Texas, where he joined the Army Air Corps, and served in the Military Police Division. Due to a Jeep accident, in which he received serious injuries, that led to an Honorable Discharge. He returned to Spencer in 1946 and started his career in the auto parts business with Arnold Motor Supply. He married Donna Bushey in 1948. He worked at Sepncer, Iowa, Carroll, Iowa, and was then made manager of the Marshalltown, Iowa store. He was a hard worker, as he liked his store to be the first in sales and collections each month. He was also very kind, always wanting to do something to help people. Due to ill health, he retired in 1980 and moved to Tucson, Arizona. He had four years of kidney dialysis, and received a transplant in 1991. His wife passed away in 1997. He continued to live in Arizona until 2002, when he moved to Miami, Florida and married Alice (Dalsgaard) Yates. Ray passed away October 13, 2009. Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife; four brothers: Harvey, Stanley, Gilbert and Lester (Si) Pullen; three sister-in-law's ; a brother-in-law, LeRoy Rusch and his stepmother, Zoe Pullen. He is survived by his wife, Alice of Miami, Florida; a sister, Florence Rusch of Spencer, IA; a stepbrother and his wife, Jack and Holly Spitler of Rock Rapids, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. Following the graveside services, a lunch will be served at the Wesley Room at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
