Raymond L. Ball

Raymond Lora Ball, the son of Lora and Luella (Peterson) Ball, was born on March 9, 1929, on a farm near Webb, IA. He was raised in the Webb area and attended the Garfield Country School and then Garfield Webb High School, graduating in 1946. On October 7, 1950, Raymond married Maralyn Lindhart in Jackson, MN. Following their marriage, Raymond was engaged in farming south of Dickens for many years before moving to Webb. While in Webb, he continued to farm and was a Pioneer Seed Corn Dealer for 26 years. Raymond was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Webb until they joined with Spencer. He enjoyed serving the community by being on the City Council. Raymond took yearly fishing trips to Ontario, Canada with his family members and friends. Raymond and Maralyn traveled to many places like Hawaii, Jamaica and Glacier National Park through his work and bank trips. Raymond enjoyed being outdoors and fishing, but most of all he loved socializing with his family and friends. Raymond passed away on January 27, 2012, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Lou Walsh. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Maralyn of Webb, IA; one son, Curtis and wife, Donna of Dickens, IA; three daughters: Debra Tryggestad and husband, Daryl of Baudette, MN, Donna Barstad of Sioux Falls, SD, and Linda Grange and husband, Alan of Ruthven, IA; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Hans Ball and wife, Delma of Jefferson, IA; one brother-in-law, Vernon Walsh and wife, Verlene of Lakefield, MN; other relatives and many, many friends. Our Grandpa A song in your heart, a light step in your soul. That's what our Grandpa taught us as a family, how to live your life. He was a man of service, of passion, of family, of warmth and hospitality, kindness and giving, but most of all he cared about other people. He was a teacher of principle, kindness, music, and the beauty of nature. We were fortunate to have him in our lives. He strove to make sure that we were always happy, never short-changed us on reasons to laugh and smile, told us there were really no reasons for tears, because the sun would come up tomorrow. He was right, about that and so much more. In the years to come, we will carry on his ability to enjoy the simple pleasures of life--like the taste of a peppermint melting in your mouth, the smile of an old acquaintance, a cardinal that decides to rest outside your window, the sound of a boat breaking water as it heads out for a fishing trip, the smell of freshly cut grass, and on a calm summer evening listening to the corn grow.
