Redge Olander Berg was born at Waterville, Iowa, June 8, 1939, to Charles O. and Jean M. Berg. He attended Waukon schools and graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1957. He then attended the University of Iowa obtaining his BA degree in 1961 and his JD degree from the College of Law in 1964. He married Linda McDermott of Ottumwa, Iowa, in 1960. He then married Diane Stark February 15, 1992, in Spencer.
Redge served on various local boards and committees after moving to Spencer in 1964. He practiced general law 44.5 years in Spencer with Cornwall and Avery, his own private practice, and most recently with Berg & Howe Law Firm until his retirement January 1, 2009. He loved the practice of law because it gave him the opportunity to help others.
Redge enjoyed a good joke, playing a spirited game of bunch pitch, and golfing with his buddies at Emerald Hills on weekends. He struggled the last several years with various health problems but never once complained.
Redge passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Northshire Residence in Spencer at the age of 78.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Diane; daughters Jennifer (Steve) Economos of Clive, IA and Amy Berg of Minneapolis, MN; son Tom (Jill) Berg of West Des Moines, IA, and step-daughter, Stacy Stark of Ames, IA; grandchildren Nicholas and Peter Economos both students at the University of Iowa; Jane and John Berg of West Des Moines, and Kathryn and Sara Holton of Ames.
