Richard Alan Harmon

September 28, 1949 — September 3, 2010

Richard Alan Harmon, the son of Richard and Estella (McMannus), was born on September 28, 1949, in Estherville, Iowa. His childhood years were mostly spent in Spirit Lake until the family moved to Sioux City where he completed his education and graduated from Central High School. After high school, he entered into the military, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He enlisted on February 26, 1969 and he was honorably discharged on February 28, 1973. When Richard's military service ended he came back to the states and attended several colleges. Richard made his career in computer programming. He worked in New York on Wall Street, Los Angeles and Sioux Falls at CitiBank. He also lived in Sioux City before moving to Spencer in 2005, due to poor health. Richard enjoyed riding his motorcycle, especially down the L.A. freeways. He also loved computer programming even when it wasn't for work, he always had projects on the side. He enjoyed going to libraries and reading and visiting with people. Richard passed away at his home on September 3, 2010, at the age of 60. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Richard and Estella Harmon of Spirit Lake, IA; his three sisters: Elizabeth McCarthy of Spirit Lake, IA, Darcel Boyok and Denice LeVay both of Sioux City, IA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
