Richard Allen Konrady, Sr.

Richard Allen Konrady, Sr., the son of Edward and Clara (Petersen) Konrady, was born on March 13, 1938, in Odeboldt, IA. He was raised and received his early education in Odeboldt graduating from high school in 1958. After high school, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army serving eight years with the National Guard. On July 12, 1959, Richard married Carol Weier in Odeboldt, IA. Following their marriage, they moved to Spencer. Richard began working for Spencer Construction for about 5 years, then he spent 14 years at Spencer Dairy. Richard spent most of his time working for Eaton's for 22 years. He retired in 2000, but then worked part-time for Spencer Auto Parts. Richard enjoyed gardening and feeding birds and squirrels. He also took care of the neighborhood stray cats, giving them a place to stay in the winter. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching the Colts, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Richard passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol in 2005 and one grandson, Cody. Left to cherish his memory are his three sons: Rick and his wife, Cindy of Spencer, IA, Larry of Sioux Falls, SD and Matt and his wife, Missie of Spencer, IA; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Konrady of Cherokee, IA; other relatives and friends.
