Richard Dale Berger, the son of Charles and Helen (Dyer) Berger, was born December 13, 1945 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Ayrshire, where he received his early education. His family later moved to LeRoy, MN where he completed his education. After his schooling, he entered the military and served with the Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1966.
Rich married Harriet Vreeman on August 6, 1966. Following their marriage, they moved to the Gillett Grove, Iowa area, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Clay County Road Department until his retirement in December of 2007. He was a member of Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Rich also served on the school board for South Clay Schools. Throughout his life he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, the outdoors and spending time with his family especially his grandkids. In his retirement, Rich and Harriet enjoyed spending their winters in Texas.
Rich passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 following a short illness at the age of 68. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lois Berger, Marlene Knutson; two brothers, Sam Berger, Jim Berger.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Harriet of the Greenville/Gillett Grove area; one son, Todd Berger and his wife, Laurie of Urbandale, Iowa; one daughter, Tammy Brown and her husband, Jason of Spencer; five grandchildren; McKayla Spiegeler, Danielle Berger, Abbie Brown, Brandon Berger, Albany Brown; five brothers; Bob (Kathy) Berger, Gillett Grove, IA, Rolland (Melody) Berger,Wathena, KS, Loren Berger, Butner, NC, Doug (Jessica) Berger, Ruthven, IA, Randy (Kim) Berger, Hartley, IA, five sisters; Loretta (Gary) Buchanan, Roseburg, OR, Diane (Brad) Hoben, Sanford, FL, LaVonne (Dave) Eldridge, Graettinger, IA, Joan (Ron) Hanson, Ruthven, IA, Janet (Shane) Noll, Emmetsburg, IA; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.
