Richard Henry Schmidt

Richard H. Schmidt, the son of Frank and Treva Seymour Schmidt, was born September 7, 1931 in rural Everly, Iowa. He attended school in Everly, entered the Navy in November of 1950 and served 4 years on the USS Yorktown. Following his discharge, Richard attended Cain Electric School in Chicago. On completion of school, he worked for Herbster Electric of Spencer for a short time and then joined Local #231 of Sioux City and worked as an electrician for 45 years. In 1971, he bought Spud's Resort on Miller's Bay, which he operated until 1991, when they moved to Royal. Richard loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his family. Richard passed away at his home on Friday, May 8, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald. He is survived by his wife, Kay of 48 years of Royal; two sons: Todd and his fianc�, Denise of Spirit Lake, IA, Terry and his wife, Jean of Arnolds Park, IA; a daughter, Dawn Wigen of Spencer and her fianc�, Mark Brown of Ft. Dodge, IA; four grandchildren: a brother, Eugene of Denton, TX; one sister, Bonnie Darlington of Lake Wilson, MN; other relatives and many friends.
