Richard Orraile Siewert, the son of Charles Orraile and Helen Mary (Livingston) Siewert, was born June 3, 1926 in Glendale, CA. His childhood years were spent in Rochester, MN, where he received his education, graduating from high school in 1943. He later attended the University of Minnesota. After his schooling, Dick entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy from November 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Dick married Lorraine Drapeau on July 3, 1947 in New Haven, CT. After their marriage, they farmed on a farm near Rochester for 17 years, where Dick developed computerized record keeping for farmers. They later moved to Minneapolis for three years and settled in Spencer, Iowa in 1967. In Spirit Lake, Dick worked at Brook's Golf Course and also in Spencer for the Spencer Family YMCA. His interests included his work, family and his GRANDKIDS. He was active in the Okoboji Marathon Head Timers, professor at the University of Okoboji, as well as the 4-H and Farmer's Club. He was very active in the First Congregational Church and served on many boards. He was chairman of the board of education, board of deacons, Rotary Club, the Tailtwisters, Y basketball and worked on the chain gang at the football games.
Dick passed away at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Willard Siewert.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lorraine of Spirit Lake; his children: Linda Bisdorf of Apple Valley, MN, Ron Siewert of Boston, MA, Carol Wicks of Omaha, NE, Kathy Moss and her husband, Dr. Kenton of Algona, IA and Scott Siewert and his wife, Stephanie of Minneapolis, MN; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 14, at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.
There will be a flag presentation following the service by the American Legion - Glen Pedersen Post of Spencer.
