Richard 'Ric' Ralph Poulsen was born March 27, 1949 in Sioux City, IA. His early years were spent on a farm near Hubbard, NE. Ric attended a one-room country school in the Emerson-Hubbard school district. The family moved to Spencer, IA in 1964, where he graduated from high school in 1967. He then attended Iowa State University before enlisting in the Navy in 1968. Ric joined the family business, C.F. Poulsens' Construction Company in 1970, and in 1994, began his own company, Poulsen Equipment.
Ric married Gail Regena Evans on January 28, 1977 in Spencer, where they spent most of their married life. They moved to Clear Lake, IA in 2007 and returned to Spencer in 2012.
Ric's love for airplanes and flying inspired him to pursue his private pilot's license, which he obtained on September 25, 2000. Ric also enjoyed boating, traveling, and helping others. He loved his family. Ric's infectious smile and laugh will be greatly missed.
Ric passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at the age of 64 after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl Fredrick Poulsen and Velma June (Beermann) Poulsen, an infant brother, and an infant nephew.
Ric is survived by his wife, Gail, of Spencer, his son Robert James ( Mandy McKee) Poulsen of Sapulpa, OK, and his daughter Kari Ann (Andrew) Gilds of Cedar Rapids, IA. Ric is also survived by his brother Calvin Poulsen, of Spencer, brother Terry (Jean) Poulsen of Old Hickory, TN, sister Mary Ellen (Robert) McKee of Phoenix, AZ, and brother Craig (Jayne) Poulsen of Spencer. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Warner Chapel in Spencer.
