Richard Trevor Kirksey, Sr.

Richard T. Kirksey, the son of James and Bernie (Anderson) Kirksey, was born October 11, 1918 in Illmo, Missouri. At an early age, the family moved to Dupo, Illinois. Richard completed his high school education at Dupo Community High School in Illinois. Richard married Lillian M. Berry on August 10, 1940 at Jefferson City, Missouri. Richard was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company for several years. Later he was employed by the U.S. Civil Service Engineering Department in the Panama Canal Zone. Returning to the United States, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After his tour in the U.S. Navy, Richard was employed by Monsanto Chemical in Monsanto, IL. After Richard, Jr. was born, Richard Sr and family moved to Galveston, TX where Richard was employed by Union Carbine Corporation in Texas City, TX. Richard completed his college work at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas and was awarded a BS degree in Industrial Psychology. In 1978, Richard accepted a position with the British Petroleum Company in Anchorage, Alaska. He retired in 1983 with his wife, Lillian Kirksey and they moved to Livingston, TX. After her death in 1990, Richard moved to Everly, Iowa where his son, Richard Jr. operated a farming operation. Richard married Lois Drury in 1992 and they made their home in Everly. Lois passed away on May 1, 2009. Richard was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. Throughout his life, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite for 54 years plus. He was also a member of Rotary International. Dick was an avid reader who enjoyed sports, especially golf and tennis. He passed away on July 1, 2014 at the age of 95. Richard was preceded in death by both of his wives. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Richard T. Kirksey, Jr and his wife, Becky Kirksey of Milford; his grandson, Ben Kirksey and a granddaughter, Meghan Kirksey.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 7, 2014, at Warner Chapel in Spencer.
