Rick Allen Dietrich, the son of Alvin Dietrich and Mary Grover, was born on March 5, 1959, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. The family moved to Everly during his middle school years, where he attended school and graduated from Everly High School in 1977. While in high school he loved playing football, basketball and other sports. After graduation Rick attended University of Iowa for a short time in the coaching program. Rick moved to Laurens, IA. He also lived in the communities of Atlanta, GA and Scranton, PA before settling in Spencer over 20 years ago.
When he came to Spencer Rick worked for Rembrandt Enterprises, Eaton’s and A&M Laundry until he encountered health problems two years ago.
Rick loved to spend time with his family and friends hosting grill outs. He was the #1 Hawkeye Fan, and also was a huge Minnesota Vikings Fan. He was a sports fanatic. He would always have several TV’s on of different sporting events. You could ask him any questions about sports and he would know the answer. He enjoyed spending time on Friday nights with his friends at 5:13 for Happy Hour.
He passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the Care Center in Primghar, IA at the age of 59. He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents: George and Mary Laubenthal and Gus and Mabel Dietrich.
Left to cherish Rick’s memories are his Mother, Mary and Lyle Grover of Spencer, IA, four Sisters: Pam and Doug Bjorklund of Spencer, IA, Patricia Roach of Spencer, IA, Brenda and Doug Vanderhoff of Dickens, IA, Angela and Tex Friedrich of Spencer, IA, his Brother, Bill and James Palmer of Spencer, IA, several Nieces, Nephews, Aunts and Uncles, Rick’s Best Friend of 30 years, Pete and Tammy Zimmermann of Spencer, IA, other Relatives and Friends.
