Rita Mccarty

 Rita Mae (Theisen) McCarty, the daughter of John and Anna (Ruden) Theisen, was born on August 20th, 1928 in Le Mars, IA.   She was raised in the Oyens and Remsen area and received her education at St. Catherine's school in Oyens. On February 18th, 2018, Rita passed away suddenly but peacefully at age 89 in her home at Riverview Terrace Assisted Living in Spencer.

     Rita married John David (Dave) McCarty on September 10, 1947, in Oyens, IA.  The couple farmed near Laurens, and then Royal, retiring in 1987, at which time they moved to Spencer. Rita assisted her husband on the farm while raising their 10 children.

     Rita was a beautiful soul who loved gardening and canning and was known for her beautiful floral arrangements.   She was kind and generous with her talents.    She loved beauty in nature and decor recognizing this as her gift from God.  She was a warm and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother of her large family of 108.  Her love of family was evident to all as she never turned down a chance to care for her grandchildren or spend time with them. 

     Rita was an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal for many years serving on the Altar Society and various other committees.  She was currently a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in

 

Spencer and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.  While on the farm she belonged to the Federated Woman's Club in Everly and in her later years, she very much enjoyed the company of her Everly "Red Hat Club" ladies.

     She was proceeded in death by her husband in 2004, her daughter-in-law Beverly (Gene) McCarty, her parents John and Anna Theisen, four brothers, Elmer, Reynold, Cyril and Ivan Theisen and four sisters, Sally (and Richard) Henke, Therry (and Gilbert) Weiler, Shirley (and Sonny) Gengler, and Lois Theisen; in-laws Vetus and Agnes (Cajacob) McCarty, Frank, Bob, Bill, Tom and Chuck McCarty, Betty (and Bob) Youngers, Bob Abels, John Rodkewich.   

     Rita is survived by six sons and four daughters: James (Mary) McCarty of Cedar Falls, Robert (Lois) McCarty of Peterson, Dan (Donna) McCarty of Hartley, Mark McCarty of Tucson, AZ, Eugene McCarty of Hartley, Allen (Javotte) McCarty of Spencer, Diane (Dan) Full of Royal, Barbara (Wayne) Brunsvold of Okoboji, Julie (Mark) Schuett of Dakota Dunes, SD, Lori (Jeff) Maurer of Spirit Lake, along with 35 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren; and sister-in-laws Helen Theisen of Remsen, Yvonne Theisen of Marcus, Joan Cronin of Marcus, Rita Theisen of Canby, MN, Regina McCarty of Rockford, IL, Patricia Rodkewich of New Brighton, MN, Jean Abels of Buckeye, AZ, Theresa McCarty of Centerville, Theresa McCarty of Albuquerque, NM, Robert and Peggy Naughton of Houston, TX  as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.

VISITATION
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00pm with the family present on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.  A Catholic Rosary Service will be held at 4:30pm and a Prayer Service at 7:00pm.
