Robert 'Bob' George Speed

May 30, 1934 — September 8, 2013

Robert 'Bob' George Speed, the son of Bert George and Ethel May (Parsons) Speed, was born May 30, 1934 on a farm near Gillett Grove, IA. His childhood years were spent on the farm near Webb, IA, where he received his education graduating from Webb High School. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the Army Air Corps. Bob married Colleen Fogarty on May 4, 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, Iowa. After their marriage, they moved to Ft. Chaffee in Arkansas, where he continued to serve in the military until his honorable discharge in November of 1957. They returned to farm with his father on Sunny View Stock Farm near Webb, Iowa. Bob continued to farm for many years after his father's death in 1970. Bob also started Speed Electric in 1965, where he enjoyed doing electrical, plumbing and backhoe work. This was truly his passion. Bob was especially proud of continuing to own the Speed Sunny View Stock Farm established in 1892. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Bob was also a member of the Two-cylinder club, and was on the 4-H and the Dog Committees at the Clay County Fair. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with Fogarty family on his many trips to Minnesota (especially his time at Camp Courage North), spending time in Arizona and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the age of 79. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Colleen on October 21, 2008; one brother, James Speed; one sister, Joyce Ewoldt; a grandson, Michael Kacmarynski and a granddaughter, Abbey Kacmarynski. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Marcia Sikora of Spencer, IA, Dick and his wife, Cindy Speed of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Mary and her husband, Dennis Kacmarynski of Spencer, IA and Dan and his wife, Cindy Speed of Wilton, IA; his grandchildren: Tim & Jenna Sikora, Jon, Alex and Katie Speed, Kyle (Caitlyn), Tyler and Brody Kacmarynski, Kelsey, Cayla, Riley, Hallie, Brynna and Josh Speed; three great grandchildren: Lexie & Regan DeJager and Easton Speed; Alex Luetkeman (who was like a daughter to Bob and Colleen), countless family and many, many friends.
