Robert “Bob” Verner, age 73, of Spencer, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD after a brief illness.
Bob, the son of Robert and Dorothy Verner was born in Wichita, KS on April 20, 1945. His father was in the U.S. Army so the family moved often, eventually settling in Spencer, where Bob graduated from Spencer High School. It was there he met Sharon Marshall and they married on November 16, 1964. Following their marriage, Bob worked at the Holiday gas station and then as a purchasing agent in the Utilities Dept. for the City of Spencer, retiring after 43 years.
Bob enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, photography and especially golf. In his later years he enjoyed watching sports and occasional gambling trips with his wife. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and keeping in touch with his grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Verner, his brother, Billy, and granddaughter, Ashley.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon of Spencer, IA; 2 sons, Jeff of Ames, IA and Greg (Merri-Sue) of Renville, MN; one daughter, Lori of Spencer, IA; 8 grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.
A private family memorial service is planned for a later date.
