Robert Ray Franker, the son of Everette and Genevieve (Clift) Franker, was born March 24, 1929 in Royal, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on a farm NE of Royal, where he attended country schools for 8 years. He later graduated from Royal High School in 1947.
Bob married Iris Wilken on November 7, 1948 at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. After their marriage, they continued to live in Royal until he was drafted by the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. They returned to Royal in 1955, where he worked as a carpenter, oil jobber, farmer and handyman until his retirement in 1993. He also was Fire Chief, Mayor Pro Tem and Cubmaster. Bob was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Royal, where he was President, Elder and secretary. Most recently, he was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church in Spencer.
Bob passed away at Courtyard Estates at Hawthorne Crossing Assisted Living in Bondurant, Iowa on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin and his daughter-in-law, Michelle.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife and children: Iris Franker, Michael Franker, Lisa (Kevin) Baker; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Shirley Fredericks and a host of family and friends.
