Robert Cleland Drake

March 12, 1927 — March 1, 2013

Robert (Bob) Drake heard the voice of his Heavenly Father calling him home on March 1, 2013. There he joined his parents: Harold and Lulu (Petersen), brothers: Weymond and Harold (Audrey), sister: Marjorie (Eldred) Joines, nieces: Jolene (Joines) Bates and Angela Drake. Bob the youngest of four children was born on March 12, 1927 in Cherokee County, Iowa. He graduated from Larrabee High School. After graduation, Bob entered the United States Navy serving from 1945 to 1947. On March 27, 1948 Bob married Norma Hansen. They made their home in Spencer where he worked for A & M Laundry, Mail Pouch Tobacco Company, and thirty years for Kraft Foods. He was a member of First Congregational Church, American Legion, V.F.W., and the Evening Shade Lodge 312 A.F. and A.M. of Spencer. After Bob retired his interests included driving for the Spencer Taxi Cab, golfing, square dancing, playing cards and doing yard work. His beautiful flowers and lawn were a source of pride. Bob is survived by the family he loved, his wife Norma, his children: Michael (Ann) Drake of Rochester Hills, MI, Dennis (Jan) Drake of Fort Collins, CO, Connie Drake, and Cynthia (Patrick) Karls of Rochester, MN. Grandchildren: Sara Drake, Katherine (Mark) Gudiksen, Russell (Katherine) Drake, Brian (Stacy) Drake, John Drake (Carrie Ramig), Benjamin Karls and Emma Karls. Great grandchildren: Ellen Gudiksen, Annalise Gudiksen and Barrett Drake; and other relatives and friends. Our Dad Dad would tell us stories about when he was a lad According to him he was never bad. As a returning sailor he stole our mom's heart That we all agree was a very good start. His two sons and two daughters with him were blessed He was proud of each of us as we did our best. When it came to love he was a man of few words But by his actions his love was easy to observe. He rarely talked about his faith in the Lord But by his example he showed us that it was Christ we should adore. He liked to be a fix-it man. For every problem he had a plan. If not playing cards, golf or games He was mowing the lawn; it was his claim to fame. He always remembered a friend's favorite thing When he brought it to them they felt like a King. When he was asked for his favorite treat Any kind of cheese couldn't be beat. He always said apple pie without cheese Is like a kiss without a squeeze. Bob, Dad, Grandpa, Pa what ever your name We love you and miss you all the same.
