Robert E. Seversen, Jr., the son of Robert and Marie (Andersen) Seversen, was born on August 23, 1922, in Spencer, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. He attended the same rural school all eight years with the same teacher in Sioux Township, Clay County. He graduated from Everly High School in 1940. Bob farmed with his two brothers for four years, after high school.
Bob married Arlene Bovey on October 17, 1944, at the Bethany Lutheran Church. To this union two children were born: Julie and Gary. Bob and Arlene farmed Arlene's family farm east of Everly from 1946 until 1984, when they retired and moved into Everly. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. He was a 4-H Leader and enjoyed showing livestock to kids. He worked at the Clay County Fair for 30 years and was a big Hawkeye fan. He loved his children and grandchildren, never missing an event in sports, music and 4-H.
He passed away on September 13, 2015, at Longhouse Residence at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved Arlene in 2003; his two brothers: Kenneth and his wife, Ina and Axel and his wife, Lois.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Julie Raftery and her husband, Mike of Elkhart, IN; his son, Gary and his wife, Vicki of Everly, IA; four grandchildren: Joel and his wife Cari, Jaydi, Gina and Jennifer; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be 1:30p.m., Wednesday, September 16, at the Hope Lutheran Church in Everly.
