Robert Case Guerttman, the son of William and Luella (Case) Guerttman, was born on November 10, 1921, in Humboldt, Iowa. Robert received his early education at Humboldt Schools. The family moved to Spencer when Robert was 14. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1939. He enlisted in the Army in 1943, and received a medical discharge in 1944. He then worked at Northrop, building Black Widow air planes during WW II.
Robert married Marjorie Evelyn Louter on February 21, 1947, at the First Christian Church Parsonage in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer. Robert worked in the body shop at Asher Motor Company and the United States Post Office. He retired as a postal mail and delivery supervisor in September 1979, after serving 32 years. Robert and Marjorie became winter snow birds in Weslaco, Texas, until 2002.
Robert was an active member of the First Christian Church serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and later a Sunday School Superintendent. He also served as an Elder and Board Chairman. Robert was a member of the American Legion, AARP, and NARFE.
Robert passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Home, Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; two brothers, Royal and Ronald Guerttman; and one sister, Ruth Juza.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Linda (Gary) Gaston of Minnetrista, MN, and Dan (Diane) Guerttman of Casper, WY; six grandchildren: Kristina (Ryan) Windy of Minnetrista, MN, Kimberly (Heath) Gaston McGough of Los Angeles, CA, Robert (Jennifer) Gaston of Hopkins, MN, Nathan (Kate) Guerttman of Charleston SC, Matthew (Dani) Guerttman of Casper, WY, and Kathryn Guerttman of Denver, CO; and six great-grandchildren.
