Robert Calvester Handy

Robert Calvester Handy, the son of Frank and Gladys Fairchild Handy, was born March 17, 1938 in Spencer, IA, later moved to Winterset, IA before returning back to Spencer to finish his education.

Robert started working at H & S roofing company straight out of school where he worked until he retired 62 years later.  Robert also became part owner of the company for several years.

In May of 1960, Robert married Gladys Teresa Ann Foxhoven Handy and to this union two children were born, Ricky Calvester Handy and Robin Marie Handy Glander.

Robert made his home in Dickens, IA where he served as a volunteer firefighter for many years.

In 1993, Lucy Trierweiler moved in with Robert and they have made their home together at Lost Island for several years, being the proud parents of an African Gray Parrot, named Dee Dee.

Robert would make yearly trips to Winterset to place flowers of his family’s grave sites and to make sure we all knew about the family’s past.  He was the one who would bring old pictures to the yearly family reunion every year to make sure nobody forgot the Handy past.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gladys Handy.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rick and Jolene Handy of Florida and Robin and Mark Glander of Spencer.  His grandchildren: Shanda and Chad Huebner, TJ and Ashley Hoffmeyer, Jessy Hoffmeyer, Jessica and Jeff Thompson, Brandi and Cody Miller, Ricky Handy II, Dara Kamstra, Nathan and Laura Glander, Savanna Handy and Jon Mccomb.  Seventeen great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
