Robert Knudtson Samuelson

Robert Knudtson Samuelson, the son of Oliver and Joran (Knudtson) Samuelson, was born May 3, 1927 in Royal, IA. His childhood years were spent in Linn Grove, IA, where he received his education. Bob married Lois Johnson on November 19, 1944 in Rembrandt, IA. After his marriage, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army from July of 1945 until his honorable discharge in May of 1946. After his military service, he returned to northwest Iowa, later moving to Sutherland in 1962. He served briefly on the Estherville Police Dept. in the late 1950's. Bob drove truck for 45 years until his retirement in 1989. Bob enjoyed woodworking, his fishing trips to Canada and music, which was a big part of his life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sutherland. Bob was also an active member of the Sutherland American Legion and the Ruritan. He passed away at his home in Sutherland, Iowa on Monday, May 11, 2015 at the age of 88. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois on May 24, 2006; one sister, Mary Lee Samuelson and a brother-in-law, Troy Clapp. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Rennae (Roger) Smith of Meriden, IA, Kay Lynn (Michael) Westvold of Everett, WA, Steven (Shelley) Samuelson of Spirit Lake, IA and Lezlie Jo Samuelson of Cherokee, IA; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Clapp of Storm Lake, IA; a special friend, Carolyn Grothe of Sutherland; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 15th at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland. A military flag presentation will be conducted by American Legion Post #152 of Sutherland following the services at the church. A lunch and time of fellowship will follow the services at the church.
