Robert L. Carlson, Jr.

Robert Lee "Bob" "Bobby" Carlson the son of Robert Lee Carlson Sr. and Norma Faye Whited Carlson was born June 23, 1969 in Portsmouth, VA. Bob graduated from the Spencer High School, he then attended Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa both in Iowa City, Iowa. Bob married Melissa Elaine Schatz on May 26, 1996, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. The couple moved following their marriage to Iowa City. He has served as the assistant Manager of the Iowa City Travel Lodge. Bob loved the game of golf, you could find him on the courses in Iowa City and back in Spencer whenever he could. He was also a die hard Iowa Hawkeye and San Diego Charger's fan. Bob passed away peacefully at his home in Iowa City on Monday, January 4, 2010, at the age of 40. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and a brother-in-law, Kenny Baumgartner. He was a devoted husband and loving father. Survived by his wife, Melissa; children, Jesse D. Carlson of Fort Dodge; Daneka Rae, Jadeyn Kyleigh and Melissa RaeAnn Amanda all at home in Iowa City; grandchildren: William Cicero, Jacob Callendar and Garrett Cole Stepheson; his parents, Robert and Norma Carlson of Spencer; sisters: Christine L. (Paul) Bray of Brownsville, MN and Lisa A. (Matt) Dunwoody of Blair, NE; other relatives and many friends.
