Robert Leon Wetherell, the son of Merle and Mae Townsend Wetherell, was born in Bridgewater, SD. As a young child, his family moved to Peterson, Iowa where he received his early education and graduated from the Peterson High School in 1946.
On December 29, 1946, Rob married Mariana Dubois at her parent's home in Peterson, Iowa.
Rob entered the United States Army on January 16, 1952 serving during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge on December 23, 1953. He returned to Peterson, Iowa and farmed until 1970. He then purchased Wetherell Sand & Gravel from his father and operated the business until his health failed. Rob was a member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson, a Charter Member of the Peterson Lion's Club where for the past 37 years he had a perfect attendance, he was also a 50 year member of the Abiff Masonic Lodge. Rob was devoted to his family and business. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, collecting Hummel's and gardening.
Rob passed away on July 29, 2007 at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids, Iowa at the age of 79. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Mason; twin brothers: Roy and Ray; two grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Geisinger.
He is survived by his wife, Mariana of Peterson, IA; his children: Laurie Rohde and her husband, Tom of Springfield, MO, Doug Wetherell and his wife, Debra of Linn Grove, IA and Ann Geisinger and her husband, Eric of Peterson, IA; 7 grandchildren: Heidi and her husband, Joe Gaeta, Michael and his wife, Loc Rohrbaugh, Megan, Ross and Rachel Wetherell and Jason and Shena Geisinger; 3 great grandchildren: Braden Gaeta and Hannah and Tyler Rohrbaugh; two sisters-in-law: Toppy and Wilda Wetherell, both of Peterson, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday at the First Congregational Church in Peterson, Iowa.
