Robert “Bob” Martin Larsen, the son of John and Irene (Christensen) Larsen was born on January 2, 1945 on the farm near Anita, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Anita area, where he attended country school and later attended Anita High School. He later received his GED and graduated from tech school while in the Air Force. In the Air Force, Bob was a firefighter on the runway of the Air Force Base at the Panama Canal and served until his Honorable Discharge.
Bob married Judy Lehman on June 22, 1969 in Adair, IA. After their marriage, they lived in Anita, until moving to Sutherland, IA in 1972. Bob was also an active member of the Sutherland community. HE worked for West Tel for 45 years. He was a member of the volunteer fire department from 1974 to 1999, where he served as chief for 12 years. Bob was a member of the American Legion, Commercial Club and a bowling league. He enjoyed playing cards and gambling.
He passed away at the Sutherland Care Center on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the age of 73. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janice Baker; and one brother, Jim.
Bob is survived by his wife, Judy of Sutherland; one son, Anthony Larsen of Sutherland; one daughter, Ann Nelson of Atlantic, IA; 5 grandchildren, Zac, Seth, Logan, Kaleigh, and Clara; 2 brothers: Tom (Marilyn) and Dan (Chris) Larsen all of Anita, IA; other relatives; and many friends.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Robert’s name.
