Robert Morrison Dillard, the son of Asher and Edna Dillard, was born August 15, 1921 in Walthill, Nebraska. His childhood years were spent in Walthill, where he received his education, graduating from Walthill High School. Bob continued his education at the University of Nebraska for one year. After receiving his draft notice, Bob started working at Glen L. Martin Field, which is now Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE. While there, he worked on the same B26 Bombers that he would eventually pilot. He flew many missions over Europe during WWII. He entered the military and served with the Army Air Corp during WWII, until his honorable discharge. After his service to his country, he returned to the Midwest to meet with his family in Dickens, Iowa, where he began farming.
Bob married Helen Ingram on March 6, 1949 at the Methodist Church in Dickens, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm near Dickens and farmed for the rest of his life, until the last few years. He was a member of the Dickens United Methodist Church, where he held several offices. He was also an active member of the Dickens Community, where he helped with many community projects and was a solid supporter of the Dickens Fire and Rescue Department.
He passed away at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the age of 90. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Tracy, Frank, Harold, John and Richard; a great grandson, Liam Blanchard and a niece, Denise (Dillard) Rosenberger.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen of Dickens; his children: Robert Dillard, Jr. and his wife, Colleen of Dickens, Teresa Dillard of Pacific Junction, IA, Dr. Kurt Dillard and his wife, Anne of LaCrosse, WI, Richard Dillard and his wife, Janet of Dickens, IA and Rodney Dillard and his wife, Trish of Dickens, IA; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Colleen Dillard and her son, David of Carbondale, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Rose Dillard Belk of Long Grove, IA and her son, Doug Dillard of Gainesville, Florida; a nephew, Tracy Dillard of Renton, Washington; other relatives and many, many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa.

Military services will be conducted by Glen Pedersen Post #1 American Legion of Spencer following the graveside service.
Taps will be played by Robert's son, Kurt.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Dickens Fire & Rescue.
A lunch and time of fellowship will follow the graveside service at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
