Robert Negus

Robert Neil Negus, the son of Orson and Elsie (Heinze) Negus, was born on September 2, 1932 in Sutherland, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Sutherland where he received his education, graduating from Sutherland High School in 1950. After high school, he worked for Lenhart farms. On June 17, 1952, Robert married his high school sweetheart, Nina Martin in Sutherland. Following their marriage they farmed near Sutherland. On November 19, 1953, Robert enlisted in the military, serving in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on September 23, 1955. After returning home, Bob, Nina, Jane and Ron continued to live in Sutherland, where he drove a delivery truck for Fairmont Foods. In 1957, they moved to the Brookfield 80. They continued to farm and moved to their current home in 1963. Even though Bob retired from farming, he still continued to help his sons and sons-in-law regularly in the field. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and served on the Sutherland Elevator Board. Robert's favorite thing to do was to watch his children and grandchildren's ballgames and activities. He had a deep respect for wildlife, and loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed bowling and throwing horseshoes in his younger years. Robert passed away on June 5, 2017, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Marjorie Negus, Helen Selk and Shirley Baier; his brothers: James and his twin brother, Roger and a nephew, Steven Selk. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nina of Sutherland; his children: Jane and Rick Scott of Underwood, IA, Ron and Kathleen Negus of Paullina, IA, Mike and Darla Negus of Sutherland, IA, Jon and Ilon Negus of Sutherland, IA, Vivian and Rich Worrick of Lake Park, IA and Marsha and Jon Rehder of Sutherland, IA; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Merle and Diane Negus of Kingsley, IA and David and Cathy Negus of Tilden, NE; 2 sisters: Janet Negus of Springfield, IL and Donna and Kevin Dighton of Davenport, IA; brother-in-law, Jerry Baier of Sioux Rapids, IA; sister-in-law, Carole Negus of Sutherland, IA; other relatives and friends.
