Robert B. 'Slats' Snyder, the son of Dewey and Francis (Johnson) Snyder, was born October 22, 1921 in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Spencer, where he received his education, graduating from Spencer High School. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII, until his honorable discharge. After his return to Spencer, he worked for a short time in the Clay County Recorder's office before beginning his career in the laundry business. His career was interrupted for one year, when he was called back to serve his country once more during the Korean War.
Slats married Corinne Dalsgaard in the fall of 1950 in Spencer, Iowa. Throughout most of their married life, they resided in Spencer, Iowa, where he was a partner and general manager at A & M Laundry for 26 years. Later, they moved to Mesa, Arizona, the Lakes area and then back to Spencer. Slats managed several apartments in Spencer for many years.
Slats passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Corinne on November 24, 1999; one son, John.
Left to cherish his memory are one son, Tom Snyder and his wife, Jan of Sibley, Iowa; one daughter, Suzy Johnson and her husband, Brian of Minneapolis, MN; 2 grandchildren: Eric Snyder and Sara Stuessy and husband, Brian all of Iowa City, IA; other relatives and many friends.
Slats will be remembered by family and friends for his smile, sense of humor and generosity.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, November 28, 2011 at Warner Chapel in Spencer.
