Robert W. Carpenter, the son of Warren E. and Ferne R. Mandelkow, was born May 5, 1933 in Spencer, Iowa. He received his education in the Spencer schools, graduating from Spencer High School in 1952.
Bob married Carol Rose Gordon on September 17, 1953 in Hannibel, MO and to this union were born 3 children: Roberta Rose, Robert Joseph and Christopher Warren.
He attended Minnesota State University, receiving his under graduate degree in elementary and special education, his master degree in special education and postgraduate degrees in administration and areas of special education at the University of ND. Mr. Carpenter held a teaching and administration position in Algona, Iowa, was a consultant for AEA III, and held Executive Director posts in Dickinson, ND, Des Moines, IA and Aberdeen, SD. Mr. Carpenter retired from the position of CEO of the Aberdeen Adjustment Center in Aberdeen, SD in 1995. He and his wife, Gwen retired to the wilderness area of northeast Minnesota boundary waters. Since the death of his wife, Gwen, he lived on his farm in rural Dickens, Iowa.
Robert passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents; W.E. (Bob) and Ferne R. Carpenter and his wife, Gwen A. Carpenter in 2002.
On May 5, 1973, Mr. Carpenter was united in marriage to Gwen Carlson in Ayrshire, IA, in this union there were six children: Robin Carpenter of Dickens, IA, Dr. Robert J. Carpenter of Sun Prairie, WI, Dr. Christopher W. Carpenter of Denver, CO and Jeffery, Lindsay and Eric Carlson all of Prairie Du Sac, WI; 10 grandchildren; a brother, William F. Carpenter; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. A 4th Degree Knights of Columbus service will be held at 6:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 15 and a Vigil service will be held 7:00 P.M., February 15 both at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
A Military Flag Presentation will be conducted by Glen Pedersen Post #1 - American Legion following the services at the church.

Visitation will begin 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 15 with the family present from 6 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
