Roberta Travis

April 8, 1928 — September 11, 2015

Roberta (Bobbie) Ann Travis was born on April 8, 1928 to Rose and Bernard Smith. She was raised and educated in Ayrshire, Iowa. She met Rex when his Dad arranged 6 girls for him to meet. He picked Bobbie and the rest is history. They were married on August 29, 1946. They moved to Webb in 1955 and started farming. Bobbie was a homemaker and farmwife until the children started going to college when she became a secretary at the South Clay High School. Leisure time was spent at Lost Island Lake where they eventually retired. In the 1970's they started wintering in Mesa, Arizona. Their lifelong passion was ballroom dancing together-there is an image of a couple dancing on their headstone at the Ayrshire Cemetery where their cremains will be buried together. The couple moved to Riverview Terrace in Spencer in 2011 and to Longhouse Nursing Home in 2014. She passed away on Friday, September 11, 2015 with the love-of-her-life by her side. Bobbie always had a strong Catholic faith and would often turn to her rosary in times of need. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking, traveling, ceramics and time spent with family. She was a member of the Webb Federated Club and Ruthven Legion Auxiliary. Bobbie is survived by Rex, her husband of 69 years, daughters Priscilla (Tim) Brehm of Bell Canyon, CA, Nancy Ouellette of Spencer, IA and David Travis of Apache Junction, AZ, sisters Bernadine (Roger) Stout of Belton, TX and Sharon Williams of El Cajon, CA, 3 grandchildren Christina (Matt) Pierce of Spencer, IA, Roberta Brehm of Ann Arbor, MI and Travis Brehm of Bell Canyon, CA, 3 great-grandchildren Aria (14), Makenna(11) and Tanner(7). She was preceded in death by her parents, Rose (Maiden) and Bernard Smith, brother Francis and infant sister Mary Virgine. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
