Roger Dean Foley

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family. Roger Dean Foley, the son of William and Goldie (Guertin) Foley was born May 17, 1928 in Sibley, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Sibley area, where he graduated from Sibley High School in 1946. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1951. Roger married Neomia Johnson on November 21, 1951. They lived in Sibley for 3 years before moving to Sutherland, IA, where he owned and operated Rog & Bob's Grocery Store for 20 years with Bob Kramme. He then worked at HyVee in Cherokee, IA, for 6 years, and later owned and operated a Country Store in California for 7 years before returning to Sutherland. Roger enjoyed golfing, bowling, and many good days of fishing, even if the fish weren't biting. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland, IA; American Legion, VFW, where he was a past commander; Knights of Columbus, where he was a past Grand Knight; and Commercial Club, where he was a past president. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Rodney; one brother, Burdette Foley; and 4 sisters: Lorraine Dresser, Kathleen Dwiggins, Beverly Klosterman and Pat Windes. Roger passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Baum Harmon Hospital in Primghar, IA, at the age of 88. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Neomia of Sutherland, IA; 6 children, Cynthia Ramirez of Sutherland, IA, Teresa (Jeff) Oglesby of Columbia MO, Mary (Jack) Palmer of Hills, IA, Patricia (Mark) Sickelka of Peterson, IA, Rebecca (Jane Houtz) Foley of Enumclaw, WA, and Richard (Julie) Foley of Ames, IA; 15 grandchildren; 6 1/2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Don Foley of Hollywood, CA, and Jack (Judy) Foley of Colorado Springs, CO; other relatives and many friends.
