Rollin “Ron” Wayne Essick, the son of George and Florence (Burwell) Essick was born in Dickens, IA, on March 15, 1940. His childhood years were spent in the Dickens and Spencer, IA area, where he attended school and graduated from Spencer High School in 1958.
Ron enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1958 and served until his Honorable Discharge as a Master Sergeant in 1982. He was stationed in San Antonio, TX, French Morocco, Alaska, California, Germany, Nebraska, New York, Montana, and Vietnam. He married Shirley Popp in 1963. They later divorced. Ron married Sharon Sharp in 1966 and later divorced. He was a member of the American Legion. After his discharge, he worked for the Spencer Reporter, Slumberland, and several other odd jobs before his retirement in 2010.
Ron enjoyed going to casinos, bowling, playing softball, watching NASCAR, wrestling and football. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Ron passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025 at SPARC Nursing Home in Spencer, IA, at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 sisters, one brother, and several nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish his memory are his 2 children: Steven (Rhonda) Essick of Spencer, IA and Kelly (John) Scharf of Fort Dodge, IA; 2 grandchildren: Corey (Tracy) Scharf and Melissa (Santino) Ayala; 5 great-grandchildren: Easton, Ezra, Paislee, Egan, and Bemrik; nieces, nephews; his ex-wife, Sharon; other relatives and many friends.
