Rony Craig Sears

Rony Craig Sears, the son of Walter and Anna Oestenstad Sears, was born on March 28, 1947 in Hartley, Iowa. He received his early education in Moneta and graduated from the Sutherland High School. He married Susan Roskens on August 29, 1975 in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer. In 1984 they made a dream come true by purchasing a home on Lake Okoboji and in later years making an even bigger dream come true, purchasing a home in Casa Grande, AZ. Rony owned and operated Lundt & Sears Plumbing and Heating for 43 years, he retired in 2009. Rony played an active role in supporting the Spencer community. He served on the Sunshine Board from 1979-1985. He served as President two of the six years. Rony served on the Board again from 2000 - 2006 holding each office on the Board. During his tenure, he was very instrumental in the expansion of programs, in 1982 the can room addition, building a group home opening in 1985, chaired the building addition of two class rooms and two offices along with two special education classes held through the Spencer High School. Rony served on the Spencer City Council from 1988-1995, member of the University Of Okoboji Corvette Club where he served as President, Founder of Old Iron Company, Pony Express, Big Brother and Big Sister and Founder of the Clay County Fair Old Fashioned Days. Rony also received Service of Mankind Award in 1984. He was also a member of the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Rony passed away on November 20, 2012 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 65. He is preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law and Ed Lundt. Rony is survived by his wife, Sue of Milford, Iowa; his children: Luke and his wife, Jill and their children: Halle and Maggie of Spencer, his daughter, Rhonda Sears and her son, Tallen of Spencer; one brother: Jerry and Sharon Sears of Bailey, CO and their children: Jenny (Jim)Lapke and children and Wade (Sarah) and children; sister-in-law, Sharon Holven and son Tj; brothers-in-law: Steve Roskens and daughter, Chelsea (Josh) Peterson, Stan and Susan Roskens and Sid and Marge Roskens; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.
