Bobby "Top Cat" Samaniego was greeted in heaven by his Savior after a courageous battle with acute leukemia on August 1, 2009.
Bobby was born in Rincon, NM to Paul and Angie Samaniego on May 12, 1931. He grew up in Las Cruces, NM. He joined the National Guard and served during the Korean War along side his dad. After serving his country he attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM, where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Louise Crespin. They were married 55 years. He was a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Bobby loved sports and played baseball and football in high school. He won the Golden Gloves Boxing light heavy weight title in California in 1951. He was active as a Boy Scout Leader with his sons, coached Little League, and continued to coach Golden Glove boxers. In his forties he played semi-pro hardball in Washington State and finished his sports career playing softball into his sixtys in Hemet, California.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Louise of the family home in Hartley; sons: Paul Jeffrey and Rene Richard; one daughter Lori Ann Scroggin and husband Doug; five grandchildren: Cargo, Alex, Danny, Chylea, and Victoria Samaniego; one great-grandchild, Brayden; and Bobby's sister, Margaret Samaniego Boltz; as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Angie; and his brother-In-Law, Del Boltz.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hartley, Iowa.
A Catholic Vigil service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hartley.
