Russell Crawford Runkle

Russell Crawford Runkle, the son of Clyde and Effie Mae Crawford Runkle, was born October 21, 1917 in Dickinson County, IA. He grew up in the Moneta area graduating from Moneta Community High School in 1935. Russell married Fay Steuben on March 10, 1941. He lived and worked on the farm where he was raised, until retiring in 1978, when he moved to Hartley, IA. Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling around the country, and dancing. He also enjoyed watching cattle auctions and he was an avid twins fan. Russell passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Prairie View Manor in Sanborn, IA, at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Effie Mae; his wife, Fay; a brother, Francis; and a sister, Lorraine Sommers. Left to cherish his memory are his 2 daughters, Sally (Frank) DeKok, of Primghar, IA and Geraldine (Gerry) Runkle, of Spencer, IA; one grandson, Jeromy (Lindsay) DeKok, of Sutherland, IA; 2 great-grandchildren, Jager and Hailee DeKok, of Sutherland, IA; one brother, Curtis (Betty) Runkle, of Spencer, IA; one sister, Nyla (Jim) Christians, of Hot Springs, AR; 2 sisters-in-law, Marcella Runkle, of Fulda, MN and Shirley Steuben, of Spencer, IA; other relatives and many friends.
