Ruth Alene Giese

Ruth Alene Giese, the daughter of LeRoy Martin and Pauline Augusta (Timmerman) Dobricka, was born August 24, 1927 in Sutherland, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Sutherland, Iowa, where she received her education graduating from Sutherland High School in 1945. In 1945, she was married to Bill Gillespie, who passed away during World War II. On December 14, 1947, she married John Giese in Sutherland. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm near Sutherland, where Ruth worked as a housewife and farmhand until 1968, when she began work at Lundell Manufacturing in Cherokee. In 1972, she began work at Wilson & Co., where she retired as Purchasing Agent in 1998. Ruth served on the Sutherland City Council for many years, and belonged to many clubs and organizations in the area her entire life. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Sutherland. In her free time, Ruth was an avid league golfer and bowler. She also read books non-stop. She liked to travel and spent a lot of time at the family cabin at the Lakes. Ruth was always available for her family and friends if she was needed for anything. Ruth also raised, pampered, and spoiled many small dogs. She passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a brother, Orlow; a sister, Marjorie and a grandson, Barry. She is survived by her seven children: Janice Means of Schereville, IN, Alan and Barb Giese of River Falls, WI, Nancy Riedemann of Spencer, Bob and Lori Giese of Paullina, Jeri James of Denver, CO, Gayle Giese of Sutherland and Lynne Finley of Round Rock, TX; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30a.m., Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland.
