Ruth Ann Goodchild

Ruth Mohr Goodchild, the daughter of Herbert and Bertha Mangold Mohr was born July 15, 1933 at Ayrshire, Iowa. She graduated from Ayrshire Consolidated School and received a Bachelor's Degree in elementary education from Buena Vista College. On June 15, 1955, she married Darwin (Bud) Goodchild at Zion Lutheran Church in Ayrshire. They are parents of one son, Dave. Bud and Ruth farmed near Gillett Grove and Webb for several years. Ruth taught in Havelock, Ayrshire, and South Clay elementary schools for 40 years. Many students were blessed with her dedicated loving and nurturing ways of teaching. After retirement, Ruth and Bud moved to Spencer to be closer to family. Ruth was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church where she continually volunteered her time, talents, fellowship, and food. Her passion for young children continued as she enjoyed helping students with their lessons and serving lunch at Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School. Ruth dearly loved her son and grandsons and looked forward to spending time with them. She prepared special meals, attended their school and church activities, and supported them in every possible way. She certainly was a dedicated, awesome "grandma". Ruth and Bud loved to travel and spent many winters in Arizona. Her others interests included reading, walking, playing cards, fishing, gardening, and planting flowers. Ruth passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the age of 76. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Goodchild; parents, Herbert and Bertha Mohr; stepmother, Mary Stein Mohr; brother-in law, Bob Bowman; sisters-in-law, Ruth and Joyce Mohr; Bud's parents, Lester and Gladys Goodchild; sister-in-law, Bonnie Scott and her husband Bill; and nephew, Doug Goodchild. Ruth is survived by her son Dave of Spencer; grandson, Jason and his wife, Kristi; grandson, Justin; two sisters, Marilyn Bowman and Dolores Laue and her husband Norm; two brothers, Darrold Mohr and Harley Mohr and his wife Ruby; also several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
