Ruth Ann (Hirt) Wehler, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Goering) Hirt, was born December 15th, 1921 in Hartley, IA. She grew up on a farm outside of Hartley and always had fond memories of those years. She received her education in Hartley, graduating from Hartley High School in 1939. After high school, she continued her education and received her teaching certificate.
Ruth Ann married Dr. Duane ('Doc') Wehler, on June 10th, 1944 in Ames, IA. Following their marriage, and while Duane was in the military, Ruth Ann and Duane spent time in Germany helping with WWII recovery efforts. After returning from Germany, they lived in Everly and Ruth Ann helped run Duane's veterinary practice for many years. During her teaching career, she first taught in country school, then in an American school while in Germany, and finally substitute taught in Everly for several years. Throughout the years, she enjoyed connecting and reminiscing with her former students. She loved her family, the Everly community, Everly girls basketball, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Boy Scouts, traveling, spending time with family and friends, learning the computer, and her email. She also enjoyed striking up a conversation with people wherever she went, looking for 'the connection.'
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Duane, and one brother, Dale Hirt.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons: Robert Wehler, William Wehler, Barry (Kathy) Wehler, two brothers: Cloy (Betty) Hirt, Blaine (Dorothy) Hirt, one sister: Konnie (Roger) Bojens, Sister-in-Law Kathryn Hirt, grandchildren Lindsey (Dylan) Cantrell, Justin (Alicia) Wehler, Ryan (Misty) Wehler, great grandchildren Ally and Brayden Cantrell, Olivia Wehler, and many relatives and friends.
