Ruth Jeanette Wischmeyer

Ruth Jeanette Wischmeyer, daughter of Tennis and Amy (Hanson) Mickelson, was born September 13, 1920 in Linn Grove Iowa. She grew up in the Linn Grove area, moving frequently and attended several area country schools. She was confirmed in the First Lutheran Church, Linn Grove. As a young woman raised in the era of the Great Depression, she worked wherever work was available, primarily at the Sioux Caf� in Sioux Rapids. In March, 1942, she married Dale Wischmeyer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua IA. Together they worked the farm and raised their four children, retiring from active farming in 1980. She and Dale spent many enjoyable years playing golf as members of the Little Sioux Country Club and spending their winters with their many friends in McAllen, TX. In addition, they traveled regularly throughout the United States plus visiting Europe and Mexico. Ruth enjoyed participating in community organizations serving with the Ladies Aid, Lutheran Church Women, and PTA. She had a zest for life and a talent for cooking and entertaining that was enjoyed by all who knew her. She loved her family and delighted in seeing her grandchildren and their children, and sharing in their activities and achievements. Ruth passed away at the Longhouse Nursing Home on 3 November, 2014, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, her parents, three brothers, a sister and a son-in-law, Glen Wheeler. Left to cherish her memory are Shirley Wheeler, Spencer, IA, Bill (JoAnn) Wischmeyer, Austin, TX, Connie (Denny) Edwards, Hampton, IA, Jim (Debbie) Wischmeyer, Webb, IA, a brother Gordon Mickelson, Sioux City, IA, a sister, Norma Culp, Enid OK, ten grandchildren, and their children and grandchildren plus many relatives and friends. She will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
