Ruth Larson

Ruth Rose Larson, the daughter of Ralph and Matilda (Van Scoy) Chatterton, was born April 29, 1920 in Peterson, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Peterson, where she received her education, graduating from Peterson High School. Following high school, she continued her education at The American Institute of Business for 2 years. Ruth married Ralph Larson on May 21, 1941 at the First Congregational Church in Peterson, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed the Chatterton farm and lived there until 1984, when they retired and moved to Royal. She worked at the Peterson First National Bank in the office and as a teller. Later she was the bookkeeper at Grundman-Hicks in Cherokee. To her, her most important job was being wife and mother. Ruth was a member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson, where she was a pianist and held various church offices. She was also active in the community of Peterson in the Eastern Star as a Past Grand Officer and as a 50-year member. She passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the age of 91. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph in October of 2002 and her brother, Dwight Chatterton. Left to cherish her memory are two sons and their wives: Jeffrey (Janice) Larson, of Marseilles, IL and James (Jan Wilson) Larson, of Peterson, IA; one daughter, Jennifer Loudermilk, of Royal, IA; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
