Ruth Marie Johnson was born at home on the farm in Palo Alto County to Leo and Loretta Schany. She received her primary education in rural country schools. Ruth attended and graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1948 and from Hamilton Business College the following year.
Ruth married Alvin Johnson in 1950. She was a secretary for Cornwall & Cornwall, a bookkeeper for Gamble's, Wilson Elevator and the Dickens Coop. Ruth was a promoter and bookkeeper with her husband at Johnson Supply Company for many years. One of her hobbies were to decorate the yard with themes for holidays and special occasions. For years she was in partnership with two sisters-in-law, catering weddings and special parties.
She passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the age of 87. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin in 2009; two sons: Robert and Joseph; three brothers: Bill, Mickey, Tom and one sister, Joan.
Ruth is survived by one son, Brad Johnson and his wife, Sarah of Spencer; two daughters: Julie Kloewer and Shelly O'Hara and her husband, Bob all of Spencer; 7 grandsons; one granddaughter; one great grandson; four brothers: Bob, Richard, Gene (Janice), and Dan (Eloise) Schany; four sisters: Mary Nitchals, Pauline Christensen, Irene (Bart) Braunger of Omaha and Helen Schany of Las Vegas; two sisters-in-law: Lou and Mary Schany; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.
A Catholic Daughter's of America Rosary will be held 4:30 P.M., Monday.
A Vigil Service will be held 5:00 P.M., Monday both at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
