Ruth Andersen, the daughter of Albert and Anna Marie Rasmussen Andersen, was born November 21, 1919, in Cedar Falls, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Spirit Lake, IA, where she received her early education in a country school. She later graduated from Spirit Lake High School and continued her education at Iowa Lutheran Hospital where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse.
Throughout her life, she devoted herself to her nursing career and helping other people. She moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1947, where she worked as a registered nurse, becoming director of Nursing, Director of the Education Department and as Special Service Coordinator until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Ruth was active with the BPW, Hospital Auxiliary, Nurses Association and was a charter member of the Audubon Society. She enjoyed hiking, biking, bird watching, fishing, horseback riding and any outdoor activities.
Ruth passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Friday, November 2, 2007, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Wilbur, Arthur and Walter and two nephews: Dennis Anderson and Richard Anderson.
She is survived by niece, Becky Welch and her husband, Darrell of Spirit Lake, IA; nephew, Jonathan Anderson and his wife, Kay of Des Moines, IA; Dennis's wife, Joanne of Minneapolis, MN; Richard's wife, Gerry Anderson of Tulare, CA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Celebration Of Life Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, November 8, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake.
