Ruth Odetta Rupert, the daughter of Carl LeRoy and Virta Isabell (Prentice) Birchard, was born January 5, 1918 in Truesdale, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the Gillett Grove, Iowa area, where she received her education at the Lake Center School.
Ruth married Amos Rupert on October 11, 1949. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Spencer, Iowa, where she worked as a custodian for Spencer Public School for 14 years, until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Faith Pentecostal Church in Spencer. Ruth was also a member of the VFW in Spencer. She enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers and raising her flowers.
She passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the age of 94. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Amos on December 14, 1993; four sisters: Rose McGuire, Carol Williams, Cecil Noteboom and Ruby Hemmingsen and two brothers: Ronald and Ralph Birchard.
Left to cherish her memory are one son, Larry and his wife, Barb Rupert of Spencer; one daughter, Edith and her husband, Robert Birchard of Independence, IA; five grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister, Carrie Tuttle of Spencer; one brother, Bill Birchard of Spencer; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 13, 2012 at Faith Pentecostal Church in Spencer.
