Ruth Margelene Small was born on September 16, 1926, in Alta, Iowa, to Squire Albert and Myrtle (Walters) Sweeney. She attended school in Alta and later graduated from Alta High School in 1944.
On October 26, 1944, she married Harold (Bud) Small at the Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived on a farm for nine years until moving into Peterson, working at Mike's Grocery. In 1959, they moved to California where she was employed as a waitress at Yosemite National Park. In 1962, they returned to Peterson and she helped Bud at the Standard Gas Station. They moved to Sioux Rapids, Iowa in 1967, where she worked at Ray's Grocery as a meat cutter, and later at Nelson Products until her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Peterson. Throughout the years, she enjoyed handcrafts, playing cards, and volunteering at the nursing home with Bingo and making cookies.
Ruth passed away at the Sioux Rapids Care Center on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud; one son, Ron; three sisters: Alberta Moss, Thelma Peterson and Ellamae Straight; and three brothers: Lee, George and Ralph Sweeney.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons: Gary and wife, Bronwyn (Brownie) Small of Spencer, IA, and Dale and wife, Brenda Small of Oak Harbor, WA; 8 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
There will be a lunch served at the Grace Methodist Church following the service at the funeral home.

VISITATION
Visitation will begin after 2:00P.M., Sunday, with the family present from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M., Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
