Sally Virginia Muilenburg, the daughter of Ray and Iris (Summerbell) Herrig, was born August 27, 1928 in Dickens, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Gillett Grove High School and later attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and also Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA. Following her schooling, Sally taught school for eight years at Hull Public, Pocahontas, Clay Central and also at rural school in Sioux Township. In addition to teaching first through third grades, she also volunteered her time to give baton-twirling lessons.
Sally was united in marriage to Stanley Evan Muilenburg on June 4, 1955 in Sibley, Iowa. Sally and Stan lived in Sheldon for six years and Fort Dodge for two years, before making Spencer their home for the past forty-six years. Sally was a member of the First Christian Church in Spencer, IA. She loved watching her kids play sports and was an avid reader of her favorite book, the Bible. Besides reading, she also enjoyed playing cards, embroidery, crosswords puzzles and of course, bingo. Sally also spent 10 years volunteering at the Spencer Senior Center, answering the phones and greeting people. Additionally, Sally did some volunteer work teaching English as a second language.
She passed away at the Community Memorial Health in Hartley, Iowa on Monday, May 25, 2009 at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Douglas (Bud) and her brother, Edward (Skeet).
Sally is lovingly survived by her husband, Stan; three daughters: Stacy Bauer and her husband, Ted of Spencer, IA, Sue Dykstra of Orlando, FL and Shelley Anderson and her husband, Mike of St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren: Katy of St. Paul, MN, Alivia and Nicholas of Spencer; one sister, Peggy Maurer and her husband, Bill of Spencer, IA; one brother, Bob Herrig and his wife, Judy of Anoka, MN; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Spencer.
