Shelley Rae Gaunt, the daughter of Dennis and Ann (Couser) Gaunt, was born September 15, 1962 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was raised in Zearing and Spencer, Iowa. Shelley attended schools at North East Story County School and graduated from Spencer High School in 1980. She had just recently graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College in Spencer with a degree as a medical coder, which she was very proud of.
Throughout her adult life, Shelley lived in Des Moines and later Spencer, Iowa, where she worked as a medical receptionist for 22 years. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. Shelley was also an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, Clay County Pals, Hospice of Spencer and the Altar Guild. She also went on a mission trip to Mexico City, co-organized class reunions for the class of 1980, worked as a poll worker for Clay County during the elections and worked at many places at the Clay County Fair. Shelley was also known to have great love for her cats and the Iowa State Cyclones.
Shelley passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at her home in Spencer at the age of 50. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Elwyn (Bud) Letcher.
Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Ann Letcher of Spencer; her father, Dennis Gaunt and his wife, Louise of Arvada, CO; one brother, Jerry Gaunt and his wife, Sharon of Fuquay-Varina, NC; a sister, Tracey Gobert and her husband, Glenn of Humble, TX; two nieces: Whitney Johnson and Audrey (Nick) Shedd; one great niece, Serenity Shedd of Sioux Falls, SD; two step brothers: Steve Letcher and his wife, Nancy of Spencer and Brad Letcher of Andover, MN; a step sister, Kaelynn Gould and her husband, Bob of Spencer; other relatives and many, many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held at 10:30am, Friday, February 22, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
