Shirley Mae Amis, the daughter of Morris and Maureen (Gruell) Dandy, was born November 19, 1935 in Spencer, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer, where she received her education, graduation in Spencer schools.
She married George Beck and to this union was born three sons: Rick, Mick & Terry Beck. During the early years, she stayed at home to take care of her children. Later, she worked several jobs to help raise her family including: The Alibi, The Eagle's Club, Mathison's, Spencer Foods and Witco. Shirley was a member of the First English Lutheran Church.
Shirley married Thomas Amis on January 4, 1992 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She was also a member of the Eagle's Club, loved to roller skate, ice skate, sing at the Grand Meander, gardening her flowers, taking care of her beloved pets and the most important of all taking care of her family, especially her children and her home.
Shirley passed away at home in Spencer on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Thomas Amis of Spencer; three sons: Rick Beck of Linn Grove, IA, Mick Beck of Linn Grove, IA and Terry Beck and his wife, Jackie of Spencer; her grandchildren: Trish, Heather, Mandy, Ashley, Cole, April and Brook; many great grandchildren; three brothers: Terry (Betty) Dandy of Spencer, Dan Dandy of Des Moines, IA and Mike Anderson of Spencer, IA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
