Shirley Jean Friedrichsen, daughter of Levi and Mary Reed, passed away October 23, 2010 after a brief illness. Shirley was born August 1, 1926, in Peterson, Iowa and attended school there - graduating with the class of 1944. She then moved to Boone, IA, living with family members while attending Boone Junior College.
After college Shirley worked at Hines Hospital in Chicago, IL, while living with her sisters and cousins. Later she accepted a position at Peterson State Bank until her marriage to Lloyd Friedrichsen, July 27, 1947. They farmed in the Holstein area for several years, until moving to Minnesota. Shirley remained at home raising her beloved four children until accepting a position as vice-president of First National Bank of Fargo. She was unable to continue with those plans, when Lloyd was transferred to Omaha, NE. Shirley then took employment at American National Bank of Omaha for 15 years, working in the commercial accounts division. After their retirement, Shirley and Lloyd both enjoyed "working" outdoors at Miracle Hills Golf Course in Omaha. In 1996, Shirley and Lloyd moved to Peterson, IA, living in the home that her parents built. Shirley enjoyed everything about nature - including bird watching, taking care of flowers, and planting trees. She belonged to Eastern Star, First Congregational church circle, and the Arbor Foundation.
Preceding her in death were her parents, and all her siblings: Howard Reed, G. Mary Lohner, Ralph Reed, Evelyn Christensen-Brees, Frances Snyder, and Robert Reed. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 63 years, Lloyd, and their four children: Gregory (Kathleen) Friedrichsen of Muncie, IN; Marci (Bryan) Karley of Springfield, MO; Mary Ann (Paul) Johns of Plattsmouth, NE; Scott (Katherine) Friedrichsen of San Antonio, TX. She also leaves behind five grandsons: Kristopher Long; Nathan (Sarah) Johns; Jordan (Rebekah) Johns; Michael and Jack Friedrichsen, and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
